Why Sponsoring a Speaker or a Blogger To a Conference Is Good Business

What is the most common complaint we hear

businesses making today?

“We just need to get in front of more of our customers”

  • Ok, how are you doing that in a way that if valuable to the customer?
  • Are you connecting with them where they are already?
  • Are you talking with them as a person or a customer?
  • Are you letting WOM ( word of mouth) be your mouthpiece?

There is the old fashioned way of word or mouth, you can wait for your customers to tell others about you…

OR

You can find ways to stimulate more vibrant word of mouth opportunities…

Speakers and Bloggers who are already talking to your type of customers.

There are many reasons to create relationships with speakers and bloggers.  Not all will fit for every business.  With that said, I invite you to be open to the possibilities of when it will work VS thinking of reasons to shoot the idea down without examining it.

What is sponsoring a speaker or blogger?

(there are many who have not heard of this yet)  When a speaker or a blogger LOVES your product or service, they are a great mouth piece to share that WOM we talked about earlier.

  • They have people’s attention
  • They are respected
  • They have credibility
  • They are able to drive actions with their audience

When that synergy is there, it is a great fit to partner with a speaker or blogger, to support their mission and message.  As speakers and bloggers, we do a lot for our communities gratis.

“It is our passion and we love it. ”

We  ( as the recipients) also want to remember that when we receive so much from others, one of our responsibility is to think about how we can give back.

It is the law of reciprocity and prosperity, it is a flow, otherwise the flow will dry up.

Law of reciprocity is key to prosperity

Now imagine you are a company that wants to connect with parents.

Who is having regular conversations and giving those parents support and help daily?

Parenting bloggers, Mom bloggers, Dad bloggers, there are so many niches inside this segment, your head would spin.

Yet, it is simple.  How many times when you were a young parent did you say “I wish I had someone who could tell me how to choose between all these car seats because it is over whelming” – well now they do have that.  Several parenting bloggers and doctors who has taken the time to create posts to explain the process to parents helping them not have to source from a-z and they can read, learn and make an informed decision.

Now, those are an obvious choice of bloggers,

well known-spread by mass media-parenting-mommy bloggers.

I've seen some corporations pay thousands to have people go cover events and blog about it.  If the blogger has a large sphere of readers that can get you good publicity & exposure, it can be some of the best money you ever spend!

Yeah Jeremy I wonder who is kicking themselves now seeing the metrics were shown for influencers at Blogworld.   How many wish they had seen the advantage now? http://blog.sysomos.com/2011/11/10/what-happened-at-blog-world-some-social-media-stats/

wow!  That is some really powerful numbers!  Thanks for sharing!

well ya know, every nascar driver has sponsors stitched all over his suit, I would be happy to do likewise.   :-)    -jl

This is really about narrowcasting as opposed to broadcasting. I'm surprised more businesses don't do this as it allows them to get a message to a more focused audience which is likelier to be more receptive to their message. Old fashioned broadcasting on radio, TV or in newspapers is a much more hit and miss proposition and doesn't allow for interaction or engagement.

Dean you are so on target there.  It does amaze me that they want to have connections with their customers but they go about it in a broadcasting manner. Love your use of narrowcasting, I think I will use that more ;) Curious, have you found any brands or businesses connecting in a narrowcasting manner, in a way you find resonates with you ?
