Three Faces of Social Media-Which Are You?
Not Me
Yeah But
You Bet
Which of the Three Faces of
Social Media are you?
Each day the battles rages on in the business world. Like in the movie the Three Faces of Eve. Is looking at Social Media causing you to have a case of split personality? Do you feel like you will never be able to integrate this new mindset and set if skills into your business?
After all isn’t it easier to stick with what you know and can measure? It worked before and it will work again. Or will it?
Online, is a whole different story and battle we will leave for the next post. Today, we are here to discuss and address the three types of business people who are commenting with their opinions of adding social media to their marketing mix.
Carefully documenting the temperatures in the room before and after speaking on “ Social Media- Hype -Myth -Results” you and I will talk about what your colleagues are saying right now.
Yeah, I hear what you are saying , I see the statistics and I even see people using social media
“BUT NOT ME!”
I do not understand how to do it , it’s so foreign to me.
Boy this new fangeld stuff is just too overwhelming for me to get
I just see folks wasting time and getting nothing real done
Now, I agree that it takes time to learn and put social media into practice . What new skill and strategy doesn’t I ask?
- When computers came along didn’t you have to learn how to use them and take training?
- Weren’t the people who learned computers first the ones who were in high demand?
- Didn’t those businesses also find new ways that computers benefited their companies, adding positively to their bottom line?
Which were you in that wave of change?
Then have you seen this person? “I know I need to be there, I see the benefits,
it all sounds good…“YEAH BUT”
No on in my industry is using it so why bother
None of my customers are on Twitter, Facebook or Linkedin so what’s the point
I am too busy, who has the time
How Busy will You Be When You Are Out of Business?
I do not know about you, this sounds to me a lot like in junior high before going to high school when everyone was afraid of what the transition was going to be like so they made excuses on how it didn’t matter they were going to do what they new best and “we would all stick together and rule”
Did that attitude cut it in High School? Nah, you know we all had to grow up. It was another phase in life that was a part of our growth. Resisting and wishing it would stay the same forever was a myth. How about you and I both ask better question (as Tony Robbins likes to remind us)
- What if I used these new tools to listen to what people are saying about my company /brand/products?
- What if I instead of pitching my self every where just listened and then asked people in facebook and twitter what would they rather have instead?
- What if I could look at other businesses who used social media successfully and then hired someone to help me put together a plan for my specific business?
How about we walk over here to the third face in Social Media-”YOU BET!”
I can see how I have changed my own buying habits, which means I want to look at how I sell and connect to my customers
This reminds me when I was learning networking skills, it was a new behavior and it took me a bit, I got some coaching and in turn with consistency mastered it.
There is a new strategy I must put into place so I am getting results needed for my business. Once I combined that with the validation of others and doing it consistently I find my network growing exponentially. Social Media is benefiting my business in so many areas I did not consider at first.
Like computers, junior high and the changes in our business economy they were and are opportunities to see beyond the moment of inconvenience and unknowing that takes us to the other side.
The beauty of Social Media Marketing is you can learn to do it yourself or hire someone to do it for you. Tony Robbins says it all very well…“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten”. AND “A real decision is measured by the fact that you’ve taken a new action. If there’s no action, you haven’t truly decided”.
- So, what is your action today?
- How will you be the bridge to this new opportunity in creating relationships and building community?
- Your customers are already demanding it. Will you wait until their voice is to loud you are deaf from their disappointment?
