The Worst Thing You Can Do in Social Networking

ARE YOU BEING A Horses ASS?

Worst Thing To Do In Social Networking

Worst Thing To Do In Social Networking

Every time I give a presentation I am asked “Michele, what is the most important thing to do when getting involved in Social Networking( or as some people call it Social Media)?”

YOUR MINDSET!  Now, I can hear some of you saying Michele we already know this…we are suppose to have a good mindset, a success mindset yea yea yea…BLAH BLAH BLAH…so why is it then when I go Listen I continue to hear and see a “lack mindset”.

I know you are going down the path crooked when you ask first thing “How does this make me money?”  **(Big HINT here, almost EVERYONE asks that)**

Here is your invitation, instead of focusing on what you can “GET OUT of Being There” or “It’s so time consuming”-that is focusing on what you do NOT want and it will get you that result every time…instead focus on what you can do for others.

Social Escrow-Social Media For Smart People

Social Escrow-Social Media For Smart People

  • Here is what that would look like-Friday first thing meditate and do your 10/10 (if you are not sure what these are tweet me)
  • Then take your weekly list (you have one right) and go visit that day’s blogs you will comment on then tweet and facebook to your friends ONE good thing you got out of each of those posts.
  • Then write, record (audio or video) your own post, upload, tweet-facebook-linkedin and ping.
  • Email 5 people you have met this past year and share a story of something you uncovered and how you created a win form it and then ask them what has been their wins this year.

WHEN you do this daily you will build a following of people who see you as a Giver, someone who cares about THEM and they will be happy to support you when you ask for their help.

That is what I call Social EscrowHow much do you have in your social escrow account?

Love your feedback, your tweets, your comments, your questions and your joining us in Breakthrough Business Success Mindset Mastermind-it will turn your business around in 90 days-I PROMISE (you can ask my community as I am there for them and support them and validate them regularly).

  • I approach Social Media the same as I do communicating with my mailing list. The fact is, my subscribers do pay me, or buy products or services I recommend - but its NOT because I hit them with sales messages all day every day! No way - instead I provide value and do alot of teaching. Because they know, like and trust me - they buy.

    Great Post Michele!

I think for the most part people expect instantaneous results, and as you know this is a building process that requires time, integrity, engagement and learning to be comfortable with "who" you are. Trust particularly online is something that most definitely must be earned, the veil of transparency is becoming extremely thin nowadays. The Question is always going to be centered around what kind of business is it, what there goals and timeframes are...and what is the strategy of measurement they can use to insure there time and effort is worthwhile in Social Media.

There is so much chatter about there being too many Social Media Strategists out there...and when I look at my Facebook Wall, Blind Friend Requests, Twitter Timeline & most other Social Networks the same pattern of rush marketing exists. Once the Etiquette soaks in and people move from push marketing to collaborative referral marketing moves into full swing a lot of those confused business owners will become contributors to the community as well.

For Now...I'm enjoying the ride and feel grateful that what comes naturally to me I can help & train others to do the same.

    In Gratitude...Alex

Give, give, give, and when you feel like you have given enough, give some more! The biggest challenge people face with social media is that they do to go ego-driven and forget that it is all about connecting and building true and lasting relationships. Cool post.

You are so right even I sometimes feel like wow give some more, okay how much do people need...they need a lot giggle, so let's fill each other's cups then we will all have plenty to drink.
  • This is a very good approach to Networking. Of all the suggestions, I like the one about emailing 5 friends. This is a great use of time.

Chip you are already such a go-giver, let me know how you do with the emailing project, it has amazing results when done, :)

  • Being a GoGiver is what it's all about. So many folks, and especially politicians, could use your graphic as a fitting avatar—maybe there should be a requirement that if you're going to talk about yourself non-stop on social media, you must display the horses rear as your avatar as a fair warning disclosure. (ALL political candidates would have to include such a warning when they launched a site, and then their "fans" could eventually vote to remove it as the candidate showed human qualities such as listening, caring, seeking to understand, etc.)

    The mindset IS penultimate.

Building social capital (escrow) requires a perpetual focus on others and giving for others' benefit. It really is just that simple.

Thank Trey, I agree and it baffles me why this concept is so hard for some, guess I will need to develop a tapping series for social media too, giggle.
