Social Media Manner Twitter Chat-What Does Woody & Buzz Lightyear Know About Social Media Manners

Social Media Manners & Lessons From Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3 got me to thinking about what was special about the characters and what could we learn from them in social networking. Pixar has created a powerful sequal that had my mind asking lots of good questions as well as wanting to watch the movie over and over.

How many times do we have models around us that show us the very answers we seek everyday?

Several questions have been circling Twitter these past few weeks concerning online behaviors, how people connect and interact with each other.  A couple of weeks ago I was asked by Margie Clayman to participate in #SMsafety chat around manners and bullying.  Each week I continue to see discussion in other twitter chats surrounding “what is acceptable and not when connecting in social media”.

Tonight I wanted to center our conversation in  Social Media Manners Chat #SMmanners on the qualities and characteristics of the successful networker online.  Since I have been working with Disney and Blockbuster for their DVD release of Toy Story 3 I asked as a test case, if we could use their characters for guidelines of a discussion in social media manners.  Disclosure, we are not selling anything to do with Toy Story 3.  We are talking about the characters Woody and Buzz Lightyear (or any others in the movie) and what can we learn from them, modeling what they teach us and our children to ensure we are all creating a positive experience via social networking.

Here are some of the questions we will discuss:

Woody shared…

  • Being Who You Are is Special-How can we be who we are and foster cooperative conversations online?
  • “I’ll Always Be There for Andy”-Is that a sappy unrealistic expectation-or can we apply that to our online businesses?
  • When Woody knew in his heart Andy didn’t throw the toys away-Have you ever felt in an online conversation someone was jumping to conclusions that were not accurate?  How did you turn that around?

Buzz Lightyear….

  • Buzz was tested in Toy Story 3-If you had a reset button like Buzz, what would it allow you to do?
  • Is it impractical to see the possibility in talking with everyone online or do you need to be strategic all the time?
  • Have you ever been pit against someone online form another group?  How did you handle that?

We look forward to a dynamic twitter chat tonight.
