Cleveland Coach Eric Mangini is WRONG On Twitter
Cleveland Coach Eric Mangini, you are WRONG. I get it you want your players to “play nice” (like that really ever happens in football. Blaming Twitter for a behavior problem is well-WRONG.
Twitter is just a tool, like the football itself.
The football in itself doesn’t make the touchdowns the players do (boy otherwise the Texans would have bought a better football and we would be Superbowl camps already). How many times have we seen this play out in the NFL. An over aggressive player steps out of bounds wither verbally or physically. I know, I hear everyone already…you are gonna say it is in their nature and it is part of their game to be aggressive-“In their Game”. Not wanting to take on all pro athletes mis-behavior, just wanting to show another view…perspective
Sounds to me like the Cleveland Browns instead need to have a social media policy besides DO NOT TWEET.
That’s like saying when they carry the football they are too aggressive so
DO NOT TOUCH the FOOTBALL.
Twitter has the potential to be a huge boom for football is teams and players had some guidance. Like any corporation that integrates social media into their marketing, how about the Cleveland Browns having a social media policy and training their players how to use Twitter to help them bring out the fans. Your players are employees, albet unruly ones a lot of time they still represent the team. Instead of throwing out the baby with the bath water, get it clean and use a little baby powder.
- My suggestions:
- Give your fans some connect with their favorite players-makes them feel valued and valued folks purchase more.
- Give updates on players in a way that lets fans feel like they are seeing inside scoop
- Share fun facts with fans about players, it’s your own version of the media use it well
- Reward fan engagement with players via twitter, have contest, have fun, build the “cool factor”
These a very simple easy to implement ideas. For a more in depth conversation I would love to train your team and staff on “Social Media Manners” like milk it’s the right way to behave on Twitter
